me now is angela wry and dana millbank. dana, a big time excuse from rush. what does it say about the state of the gop? >> well, i don't know. i think that perhaps rush limbaugh and rand paul and others should be studying gold fish to learn how to keep their mouths shut. because they seem to dig themselves in deeper and deeper here. there's been a lot of blaming that's going on every now and then. you think they sort of come to grips with the election defeat. and, no, they're going to go on saying well, it's about the technology. well, it's because the voters were ignore aant. well, it's because the democrats tricked them. well, there is something about the way we reached out to them, the way the message was. they're just not grasping that. the electorate is fundamentally changed to an electorate that is supporting gay marriage, to an electorate that is increasingly latino, that an electorate that is significantly compromised of women. so it's a matter of not understanding where the electorate has gone and pointing fingers at everything else. >> angela, i always say a fish wouldn'
at the air park. you are what people around here call an air park family. >> absolutely. >> angela and john peka are raising four children on two air park salaries. angela started at airborne express when she was 19. now as a supervisor, she walks laid-off workers to the company gate and takes their i.d. badges away. >> i escorted five individuals out today, and last week i think i escorted three. >> what's the last thing you say to them? >> i tell them that i wish them the best and it's been a pleasure working with them, and it has been a pleasure working with every one of them, because they're a great bunch of people, and they deserve so much better than this. [ticking] >> coming up, hard times and tough choices. >> i just can't afford my house. i can't afford the payment. and i had to look at, you know, trying to just feed my family, my kids. that's my priority. >> when was the last time you made a house payment? >> it's been three months ago. >> that's right ahead when 60 minutes on cnbc returns. [ticking] chances are, you're not made of money, so don't overpay for motorcycle insurance.
, contrived crises. >> angela, when you're doing the state of the union and you know you worked the hill, you're not only talking to the people there, you're talking to millions of americans. don't americans want to hear about jobs? >> i think you're absolutely right, rev. they want to hear the president lay out a blueprint. the state of the union is an opportunity for president obama to talk about not only his legacy goals, but what direction america needs to take. when we look at the last congress and the fact that it was the least productive congress in american history, a lot of people say look, we've got jobs, we've got immigration reform, we've got gun control and we need you all to get on the same page with the rest of the country. >> e.j., at the democratic retreat, former president bill clinton, he said the politics americans want are in line with this president's agenda. watch this. >> i think the last election was an election where america chose an inclusive. now that you've won this race in large measure on what the american people did not want, we had to create a future that they
meetings. joining me now are angela rye and dana millbank. is this really the master plan to save the party? >> you know, it's just so hard to keep abreast of all of ted cruz's out rages. he's been on the job for six weeks and he's already sort of rivaling joe mccarthy. you know, in fairness to karl rove, he is telling the republicans what they need to hear. and i suspect republican leaders would like to do it. the problem is you can see like a guy from ted cruz, there's no way to control him. he has this swollen sense of his own importance. and he's made -- look, obviously, he's infur rating the democrats. but even members of his own party are starting to get sore about this. they realize there's nothing they can do to control him. and they are becoming the face of the party. >> but angela, some members of his own party may begin to know it, but marco rubio is praising him as a superstar. look at ted cruz's resume. he believes sharia law is replacing american law. he believes medicaid is unconstitutional. he proposed state nullification of the affordable care act. he even thinks there's a
